Be brilliant, play brilliant, and discover how to play craps the ideal way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves date back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is only about 100 years old. Current craps come about from the ancient Anglo game called Hazard. No one absolutely knows the ancestry of the game, however Hazard is said to have been created by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the 12th century. It’s presumed that Sir William’s knights enjoyed Hazard through a siege on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was derived from the fortress’s name.

Early French colonists brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when banished by the British, the French relocated south and found refuge in southern Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their preferred game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it more mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which was gotten from the term for the bad luck toss of two in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi river boats and all over the nation. Most consider the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of modern craps. In 1907, Winn designed the current craps setup. He added the Don’t Pass line so gamblers could wager on the dice to not win. Afterwords, he developed the spots for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
